ISLAMIC, Persia (Post-Mongol). Safavids. 'Abbas II, AH 1052-1077 / AD 1642-1666. Abbasi (Silver, 24 mm, 7.21 g, 2 h), second silver standard, type B, Dadian in Georgia, AH 1060(?) = AD 1650. Shiʿa kalima within a circle, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh / Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh ʿAlī wa/lī Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Ali is the friend of Allah’ in Arabic). Rev. Within a circle, the couplet ‘be giti sekke-ye sāheb-qerāni / zad az towfiq-e haq Abbās-e sāni’ (‘Abbas II struck auspicious coins by God’s grace throughout the world’ in Persian); between the lines, ‘1060(?)’ (in Persian); below the field, ‘zarb-e Dādiyān’ (‘Struck in Dadian’ in Persian). Album 2646. A very rare mint in Western Georgia. Minor areas of weakness, otherwise, good very fine.
